Giant Rubik's Cube @ Liberty Science Center

It's hard to believe that this year Hungarian inventor and architect Erno Rubik's best-selling puzzle, the Rubik's Cube turns 40! Erno's cube was first launched in 1974 in Budapest and since its international release in 1980, the popular puzzle has sold an estimated 350 million units worldwide. Among other things, the cube is probably best known for how great it was at aggravating the millions who confidently thought they could solve the unassuming puzzle before conceding defeat, or even worse, smashing the brain buster into oblivion.

To celebrate the cube's anniversary, 69-year-old Erno Rubik has teamed up with the Liberty Science Center in my hometown Jersey City, New Jersey, for a special exhibition called "Beyond Rubik's Cube."

An 80s purist and an ex-owner of the coveted cube, I recently attended the "Beyond Rubik's Cube" exhibition with my family and absolutely loved it. The exhibition is totally interactive and includes the world's most expensive Rubik's Cube, estimated to be worth 2.5 million U.S. Dollars, awesome multimedia installations, a giant suspended cube in the Center's lobby and a robot that can effortlessly solve your cube when you, once again, can't.

When all else fails. The exhibit will be open to the general public for seven months at the Jersey City location, before taking off on a global tour. If you're in the Tri-State area, grab the family and bumrush the "Beyond Rubik's Cube" exhibition at the Liberty Science Center for a super-kool trip down memory lane, and much, much more.

Before I'm out like Jordache jeans and Sea-Monkeys, hit the ATM for a C-Note or two before grabbing the exhibition. The good people at the Cube (and the Science Center) pulled no punches with the anniversary merchandising and you're sure to blow a cable bill or better in the gift shop.
