In the spirit of the World Cup, and for all of my doc-heads out there, I highly recommend the incredibly well-crafted and compelling documentary, 'The Two Escobars,' by award-winning Director Jeff Zimbalist ('Favela Rising') & Michael Zimbalist. The film first aired in 2010 as part of ESPN's critically acclaimed 30 for 30 documentary series --amazing in itself-- and is currently available on Netflix.
This film is like 'Cocaine Cowboys' meets professional sports and masterfully breaks down the rise and fall of "Narco-Soccer" and coke kingpin Pablo Escobar, as well as the untimely demise of Colombian soccer legend Andrés Escobar (no relation). 'The Two Escobars' is a special piece of work that is both culturally and historically significant and would make for a great chaser after Colombia's game this Saturday.
